Where Can We See Photographs Of Cruise Ships?
There is a wonderful
website devoted to displaying postcards of passenger ships of all sizes (http://www.simplonpc.co.uk). The owner of the site is steadily building a reference archive of web galleries, showing images of ocean liners, cruise ships, ferries and excursion vessels. It has a search facility whereby you can enter a ship's name and be shown amazing photographs of that ship. The search facility also enables you to obtain information about shipping lines.
The website provides links to other sites displaying photographs of cruise ships.
Some Of The Cruise Ships Which Visit The Islands
Cruise ships making the islands their ports of call include:
- Aurora, Adonia, Oceana and Oriana of P & O
- QE2 and Caronia of Cunard
- Braemar and Black Prince of the Fred Olsen shipping line
To see pictures of these ships, enter a ship's name into the
Simplon Postcard website.
Webcams On Board Cruise Ships
Web cameras give you a glimpse of what the passengers on board a cruise ship are seeing right now. A couple of websites which provide such webcams are
www.costacruises.co.uk and
www.mycruisevalue.com. The view may be that of a port of call or a vast expanse of ocean (or nothing at all, if the cruise ship happens to be somewhere in the world where darkness has fallen!)
Views Of Cabins And Staterooms
The
cabin viewer of "mycruisevalue.com" provides views of cabins and staterooms on a selection of cruise ships.
Real Experiences
Not the least of the things we might want to read if we were thinking of embarking on a cruise would be the experiences of other people who had actually been on a cruise - especially if it was a cruise which we were thinking of undertaking.
Sites which provide reports include
"cruise-addicts.com" and
"holidays uncovered".
A Source Of Lots Of Information
I have been impressed by the wealth of information provided by the website of
"Worldwide Cruise Specialists". The site lists (among numerous other things) the Canaries cruises departing from and returning to the UK, which is the the primary interest of this article. You can click a cruise name or ship to check availability and pricing.
The site has a database of thousands of cruises, with information about 35 cruise lines, 180 ships, 150 destinations from which to sale and 2000 ports of call.
Cruise areas covered are Alaska, Africa, Antartica, Arctic, Australasia, Black Sea, Canaries, Caribbean, Eastern US, Canada, Far East, Great Lakes, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, Middle East, N Europe, Pacific, Panama Canal, S America, Transatlantic, West US, Mexico, World-wide.

A Different Way Of Cruising To The Islands
Friends of mine have come to the islands by Royal Mail Ship. They undertook a five day voyage on a Royal Mail Ship to Tenerife and then came on to Lanzarote - one friend by plane, the others by ferry.
RMS St Helena is one of very few genuine passenger-cargo liners in the world, making regular scheduled voyages. It's ultimate destination is St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. She does the unique job of supplying the remote South Atlantic island of St Helena with pretty well everything it needs. St Helena has no airfield and this means that everything has to be brought in by sea.
On it´s voyages, RMS St Helena makes regular visits to Tenerife, Ascension island, St Helena, Cape Town and, once every year, Tristan da Cunha. Also, northbound and subject to cargo requirements, she usually calls at Vigo on the Spanish mainland before docking at Portland in Dorset.
The RMS Helena is the only ocean-going vessel in the world still to carry the venerable title of Royal Mail Ship, held in the past by so many famous British passenger liners, the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary amongst them.
The company offers
fly-cruise-stay packages to Tenerife. These include an all-inclusive package holiday option comprising a five day cruise plus a 5-day stay on the island at the resort and hotel of your choice and a flight back to London Heathrow.
